HELLCATS OF THE NAVY
Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy Davis (her then professional name) star in this moral WWII submarine tale--the only film in which they appear together. Reagan is Captain Casey Abbott, a submarine commander who is ordered to undertake a dangerous mission which sees him attempting to cut off the flow of supplies between China and Japan in the heavily mined waters off the Asiatic mainland. When a diver, who is Abbott's competitor for the affections of a nurse (Davis) back at home, gets into a dangerous situation, Abbott must struggle to keep his personal and professional lives separate in dealing with the crisis.

49TH PARALLEL - IMPORTED DVD - ALL REGIONS
1941

49th Parallel is a powerful and important piece of World War 2 propaganda, which controversially was filmed from the point of view of a group of German soldiers. Asked to make a flag waver by the Ministry of Information, the brilliantly gifted film-making team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger elected to set the action in Canada. The film features a stellar cast, who all waived their fees in the interests of the war. A Nazi U-boat is sunk by the Canadian Air Force and all the crew are lost except six men who had been sent ashore before the attack. They stumble across an Eskimo village where Scott, Peter and his Eskimo servant, Martin live. Also present is a French trapper, Johnnie (played by Laurence Olivier), who panics when held at gunpoint and is shot by one of the Nazis. After this the Allies send an S.O.S. plane, and it is the intention of the Nazis to hijack it and fly to neutral America. When the plane arrives, there is a scuffle but they manage to take off. Will they be caught before they kill again?

Cast: Richard George .... Captain Bernsdorff, Commander German Submarine U37 / Leslie Howard .... Philip Armstrong Scott, Writer / Raymond Massey (I) .... Andy Brock, AWOL Canadian Soldier / Raymond Lovell .... Lieutenant Kuhnecke, Member of German Submarine Crew / Laurence Olivier .... Johnnie Barris the Trapper / Anton Walbrook .... Peter, Settlement Leader / Glynis Johns .... Anna, young settlement girl.

ABOVE US THE WAVES - 1955 RARE BRITISH MOVIE
ABOVE US THE WAVES - 1955 RARE BRITISH MOVIE

Above Us the Waves is a 1955 British war film directed by Ralph Thomas, about human torpedo and midget submarine attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz. It is based on two true-life attacks on the Tirpitz by British commando frogmen, first using Chariot manned torpedoes in Operation Title in 1942, and then X-Craft midget submarines in Operation Source in 1943. Some of the original equipment was used in the film.

The Royal Navy is concerned about constant attacks on convoys by German submarines and having to keep "half the fleet" watching for the German battleship Tirpitz. The Tirpitz is 60 miles from the sea inside a Norwegian fjord and attempts by the Royal Air Force to sink her have failed. Commander Fraser (Mills) is determined to prove that an attack by human torpedoes is practical, despite scepticism from the higher echelons that such an operation would be feasible.

Fraser assembles and trains a force of British commando frogmen officers and ratings to use the Mk I Human Torpedo manned torpedoes (Chariots) at their Scottish base. After receiving a refusal to allow the operation to go ahead from an admiral, the team use dummy mines to attack the admiral's own ship using the Chariots.

Cyril Chamberlain as Chief Petty Officer Chubb Anthony Wager as George Leslie Weston as Winley Lyndon Brook as Diver navigator, X2 Thomas Heathcote as Hutchins Anthony Newley as Engineer, X2 John Horsley as Lieutenant Anderson William Franklyn as No. 1, X2 Guido Lorraine as Officer interpreter Raymond Francis as Officer on towing submarine Walter Gotell as German officer on Tirpitz (uncredited) John Mills as Commander Fraser John Gregson as Lieutenant Alec Duffy Donald Sinden as Lieutenant Tom Corbett James Robertson Justice as Admiral Ryder Michael Medwin as Steward Smart James Kenney as Abercrombie O.E. Battle Stations (1956) - RARE DVD - JOHN LUND - WILLIAM BENDIX
The crew of a U.S. Navy ship in World War II goes into battle against the Japanese fleet.

A rebuilt WWII carrier sails back to the Pacific theater to rejoin the war in early 1945, a carrier the Japanese think they sank. So if she shows up again, they will go after her with a vengeance. And they do, nearly destroying her again, ending that mission for her, but she is able to limp back to the states. The captain is tough, he knows the added risk for his ship, but shows he also has a heart by not relieving a pilot of flight duty, one who committed a serious mistake by not taking a wave-off as instructed. Lot of action shots, many appearing to be actual war footage.

Five Gates to Hell (1959) - RARE DVD
The celebrated author of 1975's Shogun, James Clavell, directs (and produced and wrote) this effective, if low-budget World War II drama. The story takes place in French Indochina (later Vietnam) where a group of two Red Cross doctors and seven nurses are captured by a guerrilla band and taken to the side of a grievously ill warlord. The realities of war and its effects on everyone are brought forward as the doctors are eventually killed, and the nurses use sex as a means of escaping their captors. Brutal scenes of the stabbing of a patient under surgery and the symbolic murder of a nun are qualified by the even-handed portrayal of the damage war does to the human side of human nature.

THE WILD BLUE YONDER-DVD - Wendell Corey & Vera Ralston
THE WILD BLUE YONDER stars Wendell Corey, Vera Ralston, Forrest Tucker, Phil Harris, Walter Brennan, William Ching, Ruth Donelly, Harry Carey Jr., Penny Edwards, Wally Cassell, James Brown, Richard Erdman, Phillip Pine, Martin Kilburn, Hal Baylor, Joe Brown Jr. and Jack Kelly.

Wendell Corey and Forest Tucker, star as a pair of WWII Army Air Corps officers. In between their battles over the affections of beautiful nurse Vera Hruba Ralston, Corey and Tucker prepare to fly a bombing mission in the South Pacific. Before boarding their B29 Superfortress, Tucker appears to be chickening out, but he is steadfastly at his cockpit past at takeoff time. for a big-budget war picture, Wild Blue Yonder contains a surprising amount of chorus boy- style singing. The best musical vignette is supporting player Phil Harris' rendition of his hit song "The Thing"("Get outta hear with that [thump! thump! thump!]/ before i call a cop" etc.)

This is an upgrade from the DVD we had listed before May 18th. It came from a very good quality print. There are some scratches, but it is much sharper than the previous DVD. Please watch the sample clip.Below is a sample clip from the DVD. One clip shows Phil Harris performing the song, "The Thing". The entire song is performed on the DVD. I've just put up a short clip from the song. The other clip shows the opening few minutes of the film. I edited it to play the opening title and cast and then a short scene from the movie, just to give you an idea of the quality. BATTLE OF THE EAGLES - 1979 - WITH BEKIM FEHMIU - RARE DVD
An epic film of all time. It is one of the greatest spectacle that was filmed in Yugoslavia in the 20th century. In the spring of 1942, the German air force had complete dominance, not only in the sky of Yugoslavia, but also almost the whole of Europe. Partisans in Yugoslavia at that time had planes that are like other weapons snatched from the enemy. During the ''Third Offensive'', 1942, on planes of different types abducted by the enemy, these are people took unequal air battle, specifying the enemy blows where he thought he was invulnerable, thereby contributing to the final victory. This is a film about the creation of partisan aviation and its early struggles. The film was directed by Hajrudin Krvavac, a famous director of films of this type (Walter Defends Sarajevo, Bridge and Diverzanti), while starring the then very popular Yugoslav actors, often in just these films, Velimir 'Bata, Ljubisa Samardzic, Bekim Fehmiu, Faruk Begoli. He finds that rancher Artemus Taylor, an arthritic despot, and his henchies, Sam Tobin and Cree, are forcing out the settlers in order to claim their land for the incoming railroad. The plot nearly predates "The Great Train Robbery" in age, but the gritty execution, and well-acted performances, take it out of the norm, way out, in a couple of instances. Brassy Myrna Dell is on hand as Taylor's independent daughter, only slightly less meaner than her father, and the always welcome Dorothy Malone is the pretty school marm on the side of good. Meanwhile, Gavin has a one night stand with the gorgeous and elegant Mrs. Cromwell (Barbara Kellerman), who is the partner of Trompeta. They fail in their mission, but Lewis and Gavin convince their chief to use the veterans from Calcutta Light Horse led by the retired Colonel W.H. Grice (David Niven) to travel to Goa on board of the old ship Phoebe, pretending to be drunken businessmen on vacation. They prepare to destroy the Ehrenfels and the two other Nazi radio ships and get the German secret codes under the command of Lewis.
