Hot-shot newspaper reporter Scoop McGuire, played by Wallace Ford, is getting totally sloshed in the saloon across the street from his newspaper- drinking a shot of whiskey for every girl he was sweet on who later double-crossed him. It seems that he got a great scoop on an important story, but before going to the newspaper office to file his hot story, he spent the evening drinking with a beautiful lady, telling her about his hot story as they both got very drunk. Unfortunately, sitting nearby was another reporter for his newspaper, and the other fellow filed the news story before our hero could sober up.
Now, he has been fired, and as he is almost too drunk to walk, reports of a wealthy man being shot to death send all the reporters scrambling to get the story, . . . All the reporters except Scoop, who is put into a cab by his buddy and sent home to sleep it off.
The beautiful young wife of the dead man seems to be the killer, and she has disappeared. Suddenly, before the taxi with Scoop in the back seat leaves the curb, a beautiful young lady jumps into the cab with Scoop. This leads to that and Scoop learns that the mysterious lady is the widow of the dead man and the chief suspect for his murder. Scoop will convince the lady to live with him in his apartment and try to coax her to confess to him so that he can deliver the killer to the cops and get the biggest story of his life into print.
Scoop is done with women, so he will now be the one to betray a woman, instead of the other way around, or maybe he will fall in love with the lovely lady and try to find another woman for the cops to arrest. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
