Broadcast live from New York, this musical drama based on the novel "Lost Horizon" concerns four prison camp escapees and their liberator, Conway, who survive an airplane crash in the Himalayan mountains on their way to New Delhi. The survivors are discovered and taken to a strange monastery called Shangri-La, but they are stranded there, unable to resume their journey. At first they are anxious to leave, but as time passes three of the four prisoners rediscover their true selves and no longer wish to return home. Conway falls in love with a seemingly young woman named Lo-Tsen, who wishes to leave Shangri-La. He learns about the Shangri-La's mystical ability to preserve the youth of all who choose to remain there, and learns that he has been chosen as leader of the mysterious place. Conway must decide whether to spend the rest of his life in Shangri-La or risk taking Lo-Tsen beyond its boundaries and carry out his original mission to help the fourth prisoner return to England. Among the many musical numbers are "Shangri-La," performed by Marisa Pavan; "A Little Bit Confused," performed by Alice Ghostley; "Second Time in Love," which includes a dance routine, performed by Helen Gallagher and Gene Nelson; and "Lost Horizon," performed by Richard Basehart.
